Cathay Pacific is raising fuel surcharges for tickets issued from August 1, 2026 — and on some routes, it's a big jump.

The steepest jump hits long-haul flights between Hong Kong and North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, where the surcharge rises 41%, from about $123 to about $174 per sector.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong to mainland China flights go from about $21 to $25, South Asia routes climb from about $57 to $81, and other routes rise from about $31 to $43.

Cathay Pacific points to jet fuel prices to justify this change, which it says climbed sharply due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. It's the airline's first surcharge increase since April.

Andrew's Take

Cathay passes fuel surcharges through to Asia Miles redemptions in full, so that 41% hike hits you even if you're booking with points. The way around this: book through a program that doesn't pass on carrier-imposed surcharges, like American AAdvantage.
