JetBlue is officially rolling out "BlueFirst" domestic first class this October.

As long rumored, JetBlue's fleet is getting the Collins Aerospace MiQ seat with 36-37 inches of legroom. We can expect the fleet-wide rollout to be completed by early 2027, with 20 planes reconfigured per month. All planes without a Mint business class cabin will be retrofitted.

The downside? JetBlue is shrinking economy from 32 inches to 30 inches to make room for this new cabin. That's a direct hit to what made JetBlue's economy special — it's historically offered the most legroom in the industry.

Andrew's Take

This is the right move for JetBlue. The cash-strapped carrier has been looking for ways to capitalize on the premium travel market by launching Mint business class and BlueHouse lounges. Adding BlueFirst to the rest of its fleet shows it's serious about competing at the top — and it isn't afraid to sacrifice economy to make room for it.
