This morning, United announced its largest international network expansion in company history at a Newark hangar event, adding 10 new international cities for 2027 alongside the debut of its first Airbus A321XLR.

Eight of the 10 cities announced aren't served by any other American airline, and the list leans hard into secondary Europe: Luxembourg City (LUX), Toulouse (TLS), Marseille (MRS), Ibiza (IBZ), Valencia (VLC), Ljubljana (LJU), Terceira (TER), Olbia (OLB), and Catania (CTA), plus Okinawa (OKA). Tickets went on sale today, and every route is subject to government approval.

Newark (EWR) takes eight of the 10 new pins. Five of them — Ibiza, Luxembourg, Marseille, Toulouse and Valencia — are served by the Airbus A321XLR, the brand-new narrowbody that makes the math work on these routes.

Here's the full slate, with United's published start dates:

Additionally, United also added four routes to cities it already serves: daily Los Angeles (LAX) to Osaka (KIX) starting March 27, three-times-weekly Washington-Dulles (IAD) to Milan (MXP) on May 28, daily Denver (DEN) to Paris (CDG) on May 27, and a restart of three-times-weekly San Francisco (SFO) to Tel Aviv (TLV) service on March 28.

Seasonal flights to Split (SPU), Bari (BRI), Glasgow (GLA) and Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) all return for summer 2027\. Separately, the carrier's Airbus A321XLR begins domestic service in September before launching international service on December 1, with flights from Dulles (IAD) to Amsterdam (AMS) and Dublin (DUB).

Andrew's Take

Marseille and Luxembourg are exactly the kind of markets I hoped the A321XLR would fly to. From the US, these are places you'd otherwise reach by connecting in Frankfurt or Paris. The catch is that there are just 32 premium seats on a transatlantic flight, which isn't much inventory. Keep a close eye on award space and book as soon as an award ticket opens up.
