Aeroplan just kicked off another buy points sale, and this one's worth a look if you've already got a redemption in mind. Through September 25, the program is offering bonuses of up to 110% on points bought directly through Aeroplan's site.

The bonus is tiered by purchase size:

  • 5,000 to 25,000 points: 50% bonus (about 1.80 cents per point)
  • 30,000 to 70,000 points: 75% bonus (about 1.54 cents per point)
  • 80,000 points or more: 100% bonus (about 1.35 cents per point)

Aeroplan co-branded credit cardholders get an extra 10%, which brings you to the 110% ceiling. At the 100% tier, points come out to about 1.35 cents each; cardholders buying at the max tier bring that down to roughly 1.29 cents each.

Aeroplan has also doubled its usual per-transaction cap for this sale, from 250,000 to 500,000 points, though the 1 million-point annual purchase limit still applies.

To buy Aeroplan points, log in to your Aeroplan account and head to the buy points page. Offers are targeted, so what you see may not match what you see here. Note that customers with a US billing address are exempt from sales tax on the purchase.

I'd only buy points during a sale like this if I already had a redemption picked out. 1.29 to 1.35 cents a point is a fair price for many redemptions. For example, you can use 60,000 points to book select East Coast-to-Europe business class flights, which require just $810 worth of points (plus taxes and fees) with the 100% bonus.
