Aeroplan and World of Hyatt Launch a Surprisingly Deep New Partnership

Air Canada's Aeroplan and World of Hyatt announced a new partnership this morning — and it goes well beyond the usual airline-hotel handshake.

Once you link your World of Hyatt and Aeroplan accounts, you can earn, convert, and redeem points across both programs. You can link your accounts on Hyatt's website.

Under this partnership, Aeroplan members can now redeem points directly for World of Hyatt Category 1–4 and Category 1–7 Free Night Awards, starting at 25,000 Aeroplan points, while Hyatt members can redeem points for a 30,000-point Aeroplan flight reward certificate.

Additionally, Hyatt points transfer to Aeroplan at 2:1 starting at 5,000 points, and Aeroplan Elite Status members can exclusively convert Aeroplan points to Hyatt at 2:1 (minimum 500 points, capped at 100,000 per day).

Canadian Aeroplan credit cardholders get the flashiest perk: linked members earn both currencies on Hyatt stays, up to 2 Hyatt points plus 2.5 Aeroplan points per $1 CAD spent, depending on the card.

There's a status angle, too. Aeroplan elites and eligible premium cardholders can register for an annual 90-day World of Hyatt status challenge — Discoverist after 4 nights, Explorist after 10, and Globalist after 20. Aeroplan premium cardholders also get complimentary Discoverist status and five Tier-Qualifying Nights each calendar year.

On the flip side, Hyatt elites who link accounts get an annual $20 CAD Air Canada flight credit now, and Explorists and Globalists will be able to register for challenges to fast-track Aeroplan Elite Status later in 2026

I wouldn't convert my Aeroplan points to Hyatt points, or vice versa. Both are valuable; giving up two points to get one doesn't make sense for most people. That said, the redemptions aren't really the story. If you hold a Canadian Aeroplan card, this partnership is great: earning both currencies on every Hyatt stay, plus free Discoverist status and a 90-day Globalist challenge, is something no other hotel-airline pairing offers.
