Avianca is offering a 15% bonus on Capital One miles transferred into LifeMiles, running August 1 through August 31. That turns 1,000 Capital One miles into 1,150 LifeMiles.

The promotion lives on Avianca's side, not Capital One's, so it won't show up on your Capital One transfer screen. You also need an existing LifeMiles account to qualify.

LifeMiles is worth holding because Avianca doesn't pass along fuel surcharges and has reasonable award rates. For example, Star Alliance business class to Europe costs 69,000 LifeMiles on most airlines.

Note that LifeMiles expire after 12 months of inactivity, and redeeming them doesn't count as activity.

A 15% bonus is better than nothing, and LifeMiles can be an interesting program. LifeMiles doesn't pass along fuel surcharges, which isn't true of every Star Alliance program. Just price the same flight through Aeroplan, Singapore, and Turkish before you move anything. Capital One transfers to all of them; LifeMiles isn't always the cheapest, and 15% won't cover the gap when it isn't.
