Chase Is Tightening Bonus Rules on Southwest Business Cards

Chase is making it harder to earn a welcome bonus on its two Southwest business credit cards. Application pages for both the Southwest Premier Business and Performance Business cards now note that the bonus may not be available if you've had the card at any point in the past. That replaces the old rule, which let you earn the bonus again once 24 months had passed since your last one.

Chase's personal Southwest cards are unaffected by this rule for now.

A few things are still unclear. The language says the bonus "may not be available," not that it won't be. Further, the new rule is tied to each card individually. This means having the Premier Business shouldn't block you from the Performance Business bonus, and vice versa.

This one stings for travelers who churn Southwest business credit cards every two years to earn the Companion Pass. On the bright side, both cards are offering higher-than-usual 80K welcome bonuses right now. If you're trying to lock in the Companion Pass in early 2027, though, you may want to hold off on applying until closer to the end of the year so the bonus points count toward 2027.
