Citi and American announced a refresh of two AAdvantage cards today: the Platinum Select and the Business card.

Starting Jan. 24, 2027, the annual fee on both cards go from $99 to $150, though it's still waived the first year. In return, you'll get up to $100 back each year on inflight purchases and a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck credit of up to $120 every four years.

The personal Platinum Select adds 3x miles on AAdvantage Hotels and AAdvantage Cars bookings, plus 2x at gas stations (now including EV charging), on select streaming services, and on Rides and Rails purchases.

Meanwhile, the Business card gets the same 3x categories as the personal card, plus 2x in a category you pick: U.S. shipping, office supply stores, or U.S. advertising. Both keep the free first checked bag on domestic American itineraries.

The $51 fee hike stings, but the $100 inflight credit covers it if you buy Wi-Fi or a snack on American a few times a year. If you only keep the card for the free checked bag, it's a worse deal than it was.
