Here's some potentially interesting news: Japan Airlines Mileage Bank now shows up as a loyalty program you can link to your Citi ThankYou travel profile. That wouldn't mean much on its own, except every other program in that same list is an existing Citi transfer partner — JAL is the outlier.

The timing tracks, too — JAL has spent the past year linking up with U.S. transferable points programs, and it's now a transfer partner of Capital One, Bilt, and Rove.

To be clear: there's no official word from Citi, and JAL still doesn't appear anywhere on the actual transfer partner list you'd use to move points.

I'd love to see Citi add JAL as a transfer partner. JAL Mileage Bank has attractive award pricing for flights from the U.S. to Japan, plus some great partner redemptions. That said, nothing is official yet, so don't hoard ThankYou points hoping for a transfer partner that may never come.
