Yesterday, Marriott International and The Coca-Cola Company announced a new partnership that makes Coca-Cola the hotel group's new global soft drink supplier.

A phased rollout began July 1 and will continue worldwide over the coming months, with Coca-Cola brands appearing in guestrooms, restaurants, lounges, and meeting and event spaces.

The deal ends PepsiCo's run as Marriott's beverage supplier, a relationship that dates to 1992, when Marriott switched away from Coca-Cola after the soda maker declined to extend it a loan during a period of financial strain. PepsiCo took over as Marriott's beverage supplier after it extended the company a loan reportedly worth between $40 million and $50 million.

I've been waiting to write this post for years, and the day is finally here. For Diet Coke-loving travelers like me, this is about as good as hotel news gets. Just note that it might take some time for Coca-Cola products to appear on your Marriott stays since the rollout is phased.
