Why Is No One Talking About the Wells Fargo Autograph?
· 2 min read
Editor's note: Why Is No One Talking About This? is an opinion series where I look at under-the-radar credit cards, redemptions, and other points and miles topics that are often overlooked by other blogs. A new issue is out every Friday.
There are dozens of no-annual-fee credit cards out there, but few earn transferable points and give you bonus multipliers where many spend the most. The Wells Fargo Autograph® Card breaks this rule — and, despite going relatively unnoticed, it could be a good pick for many people.
The card earns 3 points per dollar spent on six popular categories: restaurants, travel, gas, transit, streaming, and your phone bill. Plus, there are no foreign transaction fees to worry about if you take this card abroad.
Better yet, the Autograph card earns transferable Wells Fargo Rewards points that don't require a premium card to transfer, unlike no-annual-fee Chase cards. Wells Fargo doesn't have the biggest list of transfer partners, but it includes some heavy hitters:
Airlines (1:1)
- Aer Lingus AerClub
- Air France-KLM Flying Blue
- Avianca LifeMiles
- The British Airways Club
- Cathay Asia Miles
- Iberia Plus
- JetBlue TrueBlue
- Virgin Atlantic Flying Club/Virgin Red
Hotels (1:2)
- Choice Privileges
- Wyndham Rewards
This opens up many options for redeeming Wells Fargo Rewards points, such as cheap transatlantic business-class flights with Flying Blue and expanded Cathay Pacific award space to Hong Kong and beyond with Asia Miles. Plus, 1:2 transfers to Choice Privileges and Wyndham Rewards can get you decent redemptions on hotel stays.
Other card features include cell phone protection ($600 per claim, $25 deductible), a rental car collision damage waiver that's primary abroad (secondary in the US), and a small 20,000-point welcome bonus at the time of writing.
This one's in my wallet — it's what my old Wells Fargo Bilt card turned into when that partnership ended, and I kept it on purpose. A no-fee card that earns 3x on six everyday categories, skips foreign transaction fees, and transfers points to airline and hotel programs is rare. The gaps are minor — no grocery bonus, a small welcome offer — but at $0 a year, it’s one I’m keeping long-term.
