American AAdvantage's annual charity promotion is back. Through September 30, 2026, donating to Stand Up To Cancer earns 25 AAdvantage miles per dollar on gifts of $25+, or 50 per dollar if you pay with a US-issued American AAdvantage Mastercard (capped at the first $5 million in eligible donations). That's roughly two cents a mile, all while doing some good.

A couple of housekeeping notes: uncheck the auto-added "cover transaction costs" fee if you don't want to pay it, and expect miles to take a few weeks to post to your account. These are redeemable miles — not Loyalty Points — and American values each mile at 3 cents for tax purposes. That's important because it can limit how much of your donation is actually tax deductible, so check with your accountant when it's time to file.

Paying two cents per mile is a solid price if you're buying AAdvantage miles for an award ticket anyway, and I'd rather that money go to cancer research than to the airline. I wouldn't donate just to chase miles, but if Stand Up To Cancer is already on your list of charities, run your donation through American.
