American Adds Vienna, Reykjavik and Porto in Summer 2027 Expansion

American Airlines just announced seven new international routes for summer 2027, led by three European routes from Philadelphia (PHL): Porto (OPO) on March 28, Vienna (VIE) on May 6, and Reykjavik (KEF) on May 27.

Porto and Vienna are first-time destinations for American, and Reykjavik returns after seven years. American will be the only U.S. airline serving Vienna, with an extended season running through early January 2028.

Elsewhere, New York (JFK) adds Amsterdam (AMS) and Nice (NCE), Charlotte (CLT) adds Barcelona (BCN), and Chicago (ORD) to Tokyo-Narita (NRT) starts March 19. The popular JFK to London-Heathrow (LHR) route also returns to four daily flights on a Flagship Suite 787-9. All seven new routes are daily service.

Amsterdam, Nice, Porto and Vienna get the Airbus A321XLR, with Flagship Suite and premium economy. Meanwhile, Reykjavik gets a plain Airbus A321neo — domestic first-class recliners, no premium economy, and no seatback screens.

Andrew's Take

Vienna is the one I'm most excited about — it's a city I love, and a brand new Flagship Suite is a fun way to get there. Just don't spend business-class miles on Reykjavik given it's a short flight with no lie-flat seats.
