Here's How Much You'll Pay To Book Qantas' 'Project Sunrise' Flights to London With Points

Last week, Qantas confirmed that Project Sunrise flights — nonstop Sydney (SYD) to London (LHR), launching October 2027 — will be bookable with Qantas Frequent Flyer points. This will be the longest passenger flight in the world.

Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace says the nonstop will be 20% more expensive than today's one-stop routes — but that premium is cash-only. Because Qantas' Classic Rewards use a fixed distance-based chart, and this route falls in the same band as the existing Perth (PER) and Singapore (SIN) one-stops, prices will be the same:

• Economy: 58,900 points
• Premium economy: 113,900 points
• Business: 151,800 points
• First: 227,800 points

Further, Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson has promised Classic Reward seats in every cabin, "even in first," while making it clear the airline won't flood the market with them.

Qantas has confirmed that Sydney (SYD) to New York-JFK will be the second Project Sunrise route, with details coming in 2027. It falls in the same Classic Reward distance band, so expect the same award pricing once it goes on sale.

I'm happy to see that Qantas won't charge a huge premium for Project Sunrise award seats. Sure, 151,800 points is a lot for a single business class flight, but it beats spending thousands of dollars or sitting in coach for 20+ hours. That said, don't expect award space to be plentiful — these will be popular flights among us frequent flyers.
