Southwest's Promotional Companion Pass Is Back With a Four-Day Booking Window
· 2 min read
Southwest launched a promotional Companion Pass offer on Monday, and the entire booking window is four days. It closes August 6 at 11:59 p.m. Central.
The structure is the usual one: a single qualifying trip this fall unlocks a Companion Pass for early next year. Here are the specifics:
- Register with your Rapid Rewards account, then book one qualifying round trip or two qualifying one-ways by 11:59 p.m. CT on August 6
- Complete that travel between August 3 and November 18
- Earn a promotional Companion Pass good from January 5 through March 3, 2027
- You'll still pay taxes and fees on your companion's ticket, from $5.60 one-way
Registration has to come first. A reservation made before you register doesn't count, even if the flight itself falls inside the window. Southwest says qualifying members get an email within 10 days with instructions for designating a companion.
In terms of what you can book, almost everything counts:
- Cash, Rapid Rewards points and Cash + Points bookings all qualify
- Basic, Choice, Choice Preferred and Choice Extra fares are all eligible
- Companion Pass reservations, charter flights, group travel and Getaways by Southwest bookings do not count
- Changes made after August 6 can void your eligibility
The qualifying trip has to be completed by November 18, not just started, so a round trip returning on the 19th doesn't count.
The math works if you're already flying Southwest this fall. A round trip you'd have booked anyway turns into two months of free companion fares next winter, and that's a big return for a few minutes of registration. If you're booking a flight just to get the pass, check your winter calendar before booking, because an eight-week pass is worth nothing if you're not flying in those eight weeks.
